Old Yeller Day

This year's Old Yeller Day will be September 28th from 9:00-2:00 at Heritage Park in Mason, Texas. Please call or email the library for information on volunteering, becoming a vendor, and all of our dog contest rules.

Old Yeller Day returns to Mason on September 28, 2024 at Heritage Park. Hosted annually by the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library, Old Yeller Day celebrates the author Fred Gipson and the frontier heritage of Mason County. Starting at 9:00, Ole Yellow Animal Rescue will host a free rabies clinic to the first 100 pets. The clinic will be drive-through and located in the parking lot of the Senior Center and Mason County Extension Office (505 Moody Street).

At 9:00, the arts and crafts, author, and food booths will open. There will be free crafts, stick horse and three-legged races, and free games for the kids, as well as vendors selling a variety of items and food. A living history encampment portraying the calvary of Fort Mason will also be in attendance.

Registration for the dog parade and dog contest will begin at 10:30. Kids or adults can come with their pet for a chance at a small prize. Contestants can dress as Old Yeller and Travis look-alikes, or come and show off their Halloween costumes early. Our participants will determine our prize categories, so creativity is encouraged! The dog parade starts at 11:00, with the award presentation right after. This year, we will also have a special presentation as we dedicate the Courthouse Time Capsule at 11:30.

The Texas Fort Trails Wine Festival will be held in conjunction with Old Yeller Day this year from 11:00 to 4:00. For more information on tickets for the wine festival, please contact info@texasfortstrail.com

A showing of Old Yeller at 2:00 will complete the day’s events. Dogs must be leashed at all times.  Join us for food, fun, and games at Old Yeller Day!

Old Yeller Day will be at Heritage Park on September 28th from 9:00 AM to 2:00PM. Heritage Park is located at 424 Moody Street, just off the Mason Square.
